Louise, who still has difficulty saying
her new surname.
Maybe we should consider changing
it to O'gelman.
Unlike Mick Jagger, we had both a civil
ceremony and traditional one, which altogether lasted about an hour. A local
registrar officially married us. A member of the Hotel staff and the Tradewinds
representative acted as our witnesses.
We have two marriage certificates, one in
Sinhalese and one in English, which is legally recognised in the UK.
Yes, that is an elephant behind us!
The whole thing took place in the hotel grounds, beach in the
background. This is where we had a little Buddhist priest do the traditional
Sri Lankan ceremony. Lots of exchanging food, drink and wedding rings. They
also symbolically chop a coconut in half as you walk off the 'Pura', and the
way it falls is supposed to determine the sex of your first child. Ours is supposed
to be a boy.
The whole thing was really colourful,
with surprisingly about 16 local natives involved in the ceremony. This bit is
when four girls sang us a song.
Next came the toast, and a dance
performed by traditional Kandian dancers.
Lighting the ceremonial oils.
Feeding each other wedding cake!
Posing with the elephant!
That took a liking to Louise!
The group photo.
Sloppy stuff on the beach.
